A large, thick, blunt needle shaped tool used for making spaces between willow rods in order to insert another rod in-between. Also a good length of steel is useful to offer some leverage in certain situations. Its useful to have two sizes to use with varying sizes of willow, the thicker bodkin is suitable for willow 1.8m long or more as it is similar in diameter to this scale of rod and the thinner bodkin is suitable for willow 1.8m or less not making too bigger hole into your finer weave.
We use both sizes all the time depending on the scale of willow we are working with.
